Ah-Choo! 15 Worst Cities for Allergy Sufferers

The National Resources Defense Council (NRDC), an agency focused on environmental issues and activism, has just released a report of the most allergic cities in America. In their study, they found that approximately one out of three are living in a city with a high amount of pollen or smog pollution.

This makes it especially miserable for those with allergies, especially those with respiratory conditions or suffer from hay fever. Our very own Atlanta also made the top 10 on this list.

Here is the complete list as follows:

  1. Richmond, Virginia
  2. Memphis, Tennessee
  3. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  4. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  5. Chattanooga, Tennessee
  6. Chicago, Illinois
  7. Detroit, Michigan
  8. New Haven, Connecticut
  9. Allentown, Pennsylvania
  10. Atlanta, Georgia
  11. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  12. Louisville, Illinois
  13. Springfield, Massachusetts
  14. Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  15. Dayton, Ohio

According to the NRDC, approximately 50 million across the entire nation suffer from a form of hay fever, whether it is seasonal or year-round. In fact, the number of allergy sufferers only seems to increase year by year. Center for Allergy and Asthma of Georgia cares for both children and adults who need an individualized treatment plan for hay fever and other respiratory ailments. It is our job to help you, as our patient, understand what allergens are affecting you, and what steps we can take together to combat your symptoms.

Pushing for More Legislative Support

Not only does the NRDC wish to spread more awareness to allergy sufferers in these cities from coast to coast, they are pushing to have legislators revamp the laws to improve the air quality. One of the ways they wish to do this is to cut down on the amount of carbon monoxide emissions that we produce from our cars, factories, etc.

Another factor that has affected our air quality is has been climate change. NRDC would to encourage the Environmental Protection Agency to help us understand how our actions lead to these rapid changes in climate and what we can do to lessen this in the future.
