CAA Now Offers Biological Shots for Allergic Conditions

Do your allergy symptoms go far beyond the occasional runny nose or itchy eyes? Some people experience such severe allergic reactions to everyday items that it can make daily tasks seem impossible or even put their health in danger.

But fortunately, here at the Center for Allergy and Asthma of Georgia, we’re always looking for new treatment methods designed to help our patients live happier and healthier lives. Most recently, we began offering biological shots to combat allergic conditions!

What are Biological Shots?

Biologics is at the cutting edge of allergy treatment because it has the potential to be highly personalized. Biological shots work by targeting specific receptors in a person’s immune system, which prevents a reaction or inflammation. Unlike traditional systemic drugs that affect the entire immune system, biological shots target only one specific part of the immune system.

How Often Would I Need Shots?

The frequency of your shots will depend largely on how severe your allergy symptoms are. On average, our patients receive injections every two weeks or once a month for conditions like moderate to severe asthma, eczema, or hives. Over time, you may be able to reduce the frequency of your shots.

Who Qualifies for Biological Shots?

Nearly everyone who suffers from a moderate to severe allergy can benefit from biological shots. Currently, shots are approved for children as young as six years old.

What Conditions Can Biological Shots Help Manage?

From severe asthma to skin diseases, biological shots can help manage a number of different conditions:

  • Nucala is used to treat asthma in children six and above, as well as adults.
  • Xolair is used to treat asthma in those age six and up. It’s also able to treat those with hives.
  • Dupixent can help treat eczema and asthma in children 12 and above, and adults.
  • Fasenra is being used to treat asthma.
  • Cinqair can help manage asthma in adults.

Does it feel like no matter what you do, your allergy symptoms are always there? If so, it may be time to discuss your allergies with our board-certified doctors! Contact us at the Center for Allergy and Asthma of Georgia at (404) 994-3574 to book your appointment.
